Shubman Gill expressed relief and excitement after Gujarat Titans clinched a dramatic last-ball win over Mumbai Indians in a rain-hit IPL 2025 clash. Chasing a revised target under the DLS method, GT faced tough conditions and frequent interruptions, which Gill compared to a Test match due to the slow pitch and challenging powerplay. Despite a middle-order collapse, GT held their nerve, needing 15 runs off the final over. A mix of smart batting and MI’s fielding errors helped them seal victory. Gill credited team effort and resilience, saying such gritty wins are crucial in high-pressure tournaments like the IPL.
Shubman Gill Leads GT to Nail-Biting Victory Over MI in Rain-Affected Classic

In a heart-pounding finish, Gujarat Titans (GT) pulled off a dramatic three-wicket win over Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 56 of IPL 2025, decided on the very last ball under the DLS method. The victory, led by skipper Shubman Gill, snapped MI’s six-match winning streak and helped GT climb to the top of the points table.
The match, held on May 6, had it all rain interruptions, swinging momentum, and last-over chaos. After opting to bowl first, GT struck early with Mohammed Siraj and Arshad Khan removing MI openers cheaply. However, Will Jacks’ rapid 29-ball fifty and a steady 35 from Suryakumar Yadav helped MI post a competitive total, with GT’s R Sai Kishore and Rashid Khan impressing with tight spells.
The chase, however, was anything but smooth for GT. Constant weather delays made conditions tough, with Shubman Gill later stating, “It felt like a Test match out there.” The pitch was slow, and scoring during the powerplay was challenging. GT lost wickets in clumps after being well ahead, slipping from 107/2 to 132/6, thanks to a fiery spell by Jasprit Bumrah and support from Trent Boult and Ashwani Kumar.
Needing 15 off the final over, GT capitalized on Deepak Chahar’s nervy bowling, which included a no-ball, a boundary, and a six. Despite a late scare and a missed run-out chance on the last ball, a single sealed GT’s thrilling win. “The universe gave us a chance before two minutes, and we took it,” said Shubman Gill after the match, praising his side’s fight and composure.
Gill also lauded Rashid Khan’s return from injury and emphasized the importance of gritty wins like these in long tournaments such as the IPL.
