Hardik Pandya Fined for Slow Over Rate, Nehra Penalized for Spirit of the Game Violation

The high-voltage clash between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025 has made headlines not just for the action on the field, but also for post-match penalties. MI skipper Hardik Pandya and GT Head Coach Ashish Nehra have both been fined for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 56 at Wankhede Stadium.
Hardik Pandya has been slapped with a hefty ₹24 lakh fine for maintaining a slow over rate. It marks MI’s second such offence this season. Meanwhile, the rest of the playing XI, including the Impact Player and concussion substitute, were each fined either ₹6 lakh or 25% of their match fees whichever was lower.
On the other side, Ashish Nehra accepted the Match Referee’s verdict after being found guilty of a Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 for conduct contrary to the spirit of the game. As a result, he was fined 25% of his match fees and received one demerit point.
Both individuals accepted the sanctions, which are final and binding for Level 1 breaches under IPL rules.
Despite the disciplinary action, Pandya praised his team’s fighting spirit after a narrow loss, highlighting missed opportunities, wet ball conditions due to intermittent rain, and the costly impact of no balls. “We pushed hard. It was a game of margins. We were 20–30 runs short. Credit to the bowlers,” he said.
IPL 2025 continues to serve up drama both on and off the pitch.
