Yogesh Mhatre advised his son Ayush not to copy teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, urging him to stay focused on his own cricketing journey. Despite Ayush’s impressive 94-run knock for CSK, his father reminded him not to feel pressured by comparisons, saying every player grows at their own pace.
Ayush Mhatre‘s Father Advises him to Avoid Pressure and Focus on His Individual Journey

The 2025 IPL season has become a stage for young cricket sensations, and two teenagers Ayush Mhatre of Chennai Super Kings and Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Rajasthan Royals have stolen the spotlight with their remarkable performances. But amidst rising comparisons, Ayush’s father, Yogesh Mhatre, has given his son a grounded piece of advice: “Don’t try to imitate him.”
While 17-year-old Ayush impressed fans with a stunning 94 off 48 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, helping CSK almost chase down a tall target, 14-year-old Vaibhav made history with a 35-ball century, becoming the youngest and fastest Indian centurion in IPL history. Despite the similarities in their rapid rise, Yogesh reminded Ayush that every player has a different path.
“I’ve told Ayush Mhatre that comparisons with Vaibhav are unnecessary. They are different batsmen. He shouldn’t feel pressured to copy anyone or chase a century just because someone else has done it. He has a long career ahead and should grow at his own pace,” Yogesh said.
Adding to Ayush Mhatre’s confidence was a few simple but powerful words from MS Dhoni after his RCB knock: “Well played. Aage isi tarah achha karte rehna hai.” According to Yogesh, those words meant the world to his son and showed that Dhoni sees potential in the young cricketer.
As both Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav continue to shine, one thing is clear the future of Indian cricket is in very exciting hands. But for Ayush Mhatre, the key will be staying grounded and writing his own story, one match at a time.
