In a rain-hit clash on May 5 against Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Daniel Vettori praised his team’s strong bowling and fielding effort, calling it their best of the IPL 2025 season. Despite the match being abandoned and SRH’s playoff hopes ending, Vettori highlighted the performance as a major positive.

SRH bowlers restricted DC to just 133/7, with skipper Pat Cummins leading the charge. The Australian quick scalped 3 wickets for just 19 runs, removing key batters Karun Nair, Faf du Plessis, and Abishek Porel—all for single-digit scores. Despite the outcome, Vettori praised Cummins’ exceptional control with the new ball and his leadership on the field.

“It was a really good performance, probably our best bowling and fielding performance of the tournament so far,” said Daniel Vettori. “It’s something we’ve worked hard on in training, and to execute like this was very satisfying.”

Reflecting on the team’s journey this season, Vettori admitted that inconsistency cost them dearly despite high expectations after their strong start and runner-up finish last season.

“Today felt like the start of a complete performance, so it’s frustrating that we couldn’t finish it, but that’s cricket,” he added.

With only seven points from 11 matches, SRH can now only finish with a maximum of 13, which is not enough to make the playoffs. Nonetheless, Vettori remains hopeful that this strong display will inspire a better showing in their remaining fixtures.
