Kabul, October 18, 2025 — In a significant development, Afghanistan pull out of tri series involving Pakistan and Sri Lanka following the tragic killing of three Afghan cricketers in Paktika Province. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) described the attack as a “cowardly act carried out by the Pakistani regime,” announcing its withdrawal as a gesture of respect to the victims.

The Afghanistan pull out of tri series came after the deaths of players Kabeer, Sibghatullah, and Haroon, who were attacked after returning from a friendly match in Sharana, the provincial capital of Paktika. According to reports, seven others were injured in the incident. The ACB, in a strongly worded statement, said it was “deeply saddened” by the loss and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
“The Afghanistan Cricket Board expresses its deepest sorrow and grief over the tragic martyrdom of the brave cricketers from Urgun District,” the statement read. It further added that the Afghanistan pull out of tri series was taken “as a gesture of respect to the victims” and to honor their memory.
Rising Tensions Between Kabul and Islamabad
The Afghanistan pull out of tri series adds another layer of tension to the already fragile relationship between the two neighboring countries. Reports from Kabul allege that Pakistan resumed airstrikes in the Argun and Barmal districts of Paktika Province, killing at least ten people and effectively halting the temporary ceasefire.
Star spinner Rashid Khan also voiced his outrage over the incident, condemning the loss of innocent lives. “It is immoral and barbaric to target civilians,” Rashid said, calling the attacks a grave violation of human rights. He supported the ACB’s move, stating, “Our national dignity must come before all else.”
The Afghanistan pull out of tri series was initially scheduled for November 17–29 in Rawalpindi and Lahore. However, the ACB emphasized that under the current circumstances, participating would be “inappropriate and disrespectful.”
With Afghanistan pull out of tri series, cricket takes a backseat to national mourning. The decision reflects the country’s solidarity with its fallen players and its stance against violence that threatens both peace and sport in the region.
