Adam Gilchrist Urges MS Dhoni to Retire After IPL 2025

Former Australian legend Adam Gilchrist has urged MS Dhoni to consider retiring from the Indian Premier League after the 2025 season. Dhoni, who is currently leading Chennai Super Kings in the absence of Ruturaj Gaikwad, has struggled to lift the team’s performance this year. Despite his iconic status and flashes of brilliance, Gilchrist feels that Dhoni has nothing left to prove and should step away gracefully. With CSK fighting hard to stay alive in the playoff race, all eyes are now on whether this season will mark the end of Dhoni’s remarkable IPL journey.

In a heartfelt statement, legendary Australian wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist has suggested that MS Dhoni should consider retiring from the Indian Premier League after the 2025 season. Dhoni, who is currently captaining Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in place of an injured Ruturaj Gaikwad, is struggling to turn CSK’s fortunes around. The five-time champions have lost seven of their nine matches and are languishing at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table.

Speaking to Cricbuzz ahead of CSK’s must-win clash against Punjab Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Gilchrist praised Dhoni’s illustrious career but hinted that it might be time to step away. “MS Dhoni has nothing to prove to anyone in the game. He will know what to do, but perhaps he does not need to be there next year. I love you MS, you are a champion and an icon,” Gilchrist said.

At 43, Dhoni has shown glimpses of brilliance, notably winning a Player of the Match award against Lucknow Super Giants with a fiery 11-ball 26*. However, his overall impact has been limited this season, scoring 140 runs at an average of 28 and a strike rate of 142.86.

Despite the setbacks, CSK still have a slim mathematical chance to reach the playoffs — they must win all their remaining five matches and rely on other results going their way. A defeat against Punjab Kings on Wednesday could officially end their playoff hopes, making the fixture crucial for Dhoni and Co.

Fans and cricket experts alike are now keenly watching whether this season could mark the final chapter of MS Dhoni’s legendary IPL journey.
