James Anderson, one of cricket’s top fast bowlers, will retire after an impressive career. He played his last Test match at Lord’s on July 10 against the West Indies.
James Anderson has set the record for the most wickets by a fast bowler, with 700 in 187 Test matches.

5. Test Wicket Number One – Mark Vermeulen, Lord’s (May 2003)
James Anderson’s first wicket in Test cricket is memorable. In May 2003, when he was just 20 years old, he played against Zimbabwe at Lord’s. Anderson bowled an excellent delivery that hit the top of the off-stump, getting out opener Mark Vermeulen. This moment marked the start of a great career.

In the 2010/11 Ashes series, Anderson’s outstanding performance in Adelaide was crucial. After the first match in Brisbane ended in a draw, he took the wickets of Australia’s captain Ricky Ponting and vice-captain Michael Clarke, putting Australia at 2/3. With these key wickets and Alastair Cook’s runs, England went on to win the series 3-1.
3. Test Wicket 280 – Sachin Tendulkar, Kolkata (December 2012)
In December 2012, at Eden Gardens, which was great for spinners, Anderson bowled incredibly well. He got the Indian star Sachin Tendulkar out when Tendulkar’s outside edge was caught by the wicket-keeper Matt Prior. Anderson also got Virat Kohli out. His excellent bowling was key to England winning the series 2-1 in India.
2. Test Wicket 308 – Michael Clarke, Trent Bridge (July 2013)
By 2013, Anderson had perfected the wobbling seam delivery. At Trent Bridge, he bowled a fantastic ball to get Michael Clarke out, with the ball moving in and then out to hit the top of the off-stump. Anderson’s 10 wickets in the match helped England win a thrilling game against Australia.
1. Test Wicket 564 – Mohammed Shami, Kia Oval (September 2018)
In September 2018, James Anderson broke Glenn McGrath’s record to become the greatest fast bowler ever. His 564th wicket, when he got Mohammed Shami out, was just like his first wicket and helped England win the series 4-1 against India. This game was also Alastair Cook’s last Test match, making it even more special.
